The OSAI Project is an attempt to use Open Source Artificial Intelligence to rank, review, and rate board games.  This list focuses on the Top 100 Board Games if Price Is No Object.   The first part of the project was to have OSAI use it’s database to rate from 1 – 10 the top 100 BGG board games in terms of several categories:

• Strategy – The amount of strategic decisions during a game
• Complexity – How difficult it is to learn and master
• Player Interaction – How much player vs player orplayer with player action is there.
• Replayability – How often can it be played where every game feels new
• Game Rating – An average of all known board game ratings or scores for the game
• Cost – the relative cost of the game

From thats several scores were calculated:

• Weight = Strategy + Complexity
• Playability = (Player Interaction + Replayability + Game Rating) – Complexity
• Play Rating = 2*(Weight + Playability)
• Value Rating = Play Rating / Cost
• Final Score =  Play Rating + Value Rating

This version of the OSAI Ratings is focused on Final Rating if the cost factor were removed from the OSAI Final Scores.

In addition to ratings and calculated scores, OSAI also recommends up to 10 games similar to the game it reviewed.  Each individual review is available by clicking the game name in the chart below.

While this is inteded as a summary of the project, a few details about the OSAI Top 100 Board Games Price IS No Object results:

• In this list the games are ranked by the Play Rating column which is just to the left of the bold OSAI Final Score Rating.
• The OSAI database is only through 2021. Games made in 2022 or later can’t be reviewed ceurrently.
• This list shows the rankings of games regardless of the cost of the game.  The OSAI Final score does take into consideration the bang for the buck quotient but this list ignores that component.
• OSAI seems to know what it like.  There is little fluctuation between OSAI Final Score and the OSAI Price Is No Object board game ratings.  A few games that are great games that are inexpensive dropped, and a few great games that are very expensive rose in the rankings.  But in gerneral, the value quotient built into rh OSAI Final Score ratings does not have a huge influence on 90% of board game ratings.  Only the great games that are very expensive or quite cheap show variance.
• OSAI also seems to know what it hates.  The Value quotient does help games that are really cheap, scores 3 or lower.  But those games typically have very low play ratings so the higher value quotient can’t turn a crappy cheap game into a hall of fame game through value alone.
• These Price Is No Objest ratings see no difference between a game that gives X enjoyment and costs Y, vs. another game that gives the same X enjoyment, but costs Y/2, or half the price.
• OSAI can come up with different scores on different queries.  This may seem troublesome, but the ratings don’t wildly fluctuate, just move +/-1 point or less.  However a human reviewer if reviewing a game at different times would probably have the same small amount of variance, as many times a game will sit between whole numbers in a rating(is it a 7 or an 8?).

Genre Game 65- 69.99

Niche Game  60 – 64.99
